The year 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy.
President Xi pointed out that both China and Italy are ancient civilizations with splendid cultures, and the relationship between the two countries has a profound historical.
China and Italy were the first countries that came into contact each other through the Silk Road. The Silk Road, that, in ancient China, began in Chang'an (now Xi'an) and ended in Rome, Italy, is 6440 km long.
More than 2,000 years ago, the two ancient civilizations of the East and the West were closely linked through the Silk Road between China and Italy.
The Han Dynasty sent the Chinese military ambassador Gan Ying to find the Daqin (the ancient name for Roman Empire). Furthermore, the ancient Roman poet Virgil (Publius Vergilius Maro) and the geographer Pomponius Mela repeatedly mentioned the country of silk.
Later " The Travels of Marco Polo " set off the first "China fever" in the west. Today, because of the initiative "Belt and Road", the destiny of the Silk Road between China and Italy once again take on a new vitality.
President Xi has pointed out that China and Italy should work together to reach a peak in their cooperation, to build the initiative "Belt and Road", and to strengthen the development of strategic docking and practical cooperation planning.
China is willing to import more Italian quality products and encourage more powerful Chinese enterprises to invest in Italy. Both sides should strengthen the close exchange and cooperation in the fields of culture, education, film and television, media, art, design, fashion, and science and technology innovation. The aim is to establish a solid people-to-people connection.
China-Italy Development Creative Center, the window of the ITALY CHINA FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION, will launch a 6-month series of IP exhibitions on the theme of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Italy from 16th May to 15th November.
The exhibition will be divided into several sections: "Historical Classics Review", "Solidarity and Cooperation against Covid-19", "The Envoys of Sino-Italian Friendship”. Visitors will get an impressive review of the exchange between China and Italy from ancient times to the present - a truly profound historical collection.
Over the past half-century, the two countries have shown mutual respect, trust, and assistance. They continued to maintain close high-level contacts, strategic mutual trust, and enhanced their exchange and cooperation with the convergence of interests. The mutual understanding and traditional friendship was able to blossom and deepen.
Today's world is unpredictable, with risks, pressure, and sudden disasters rapidly increasing. But China is readyto inherit and carry forward the spirit of cooperation with Italy by:
Strengthen the strategic communication
Supporting the international community, seeking common ground, and accommodating differences
Promoting development by cooperating and contributing new wisdom and strength to build a better world
