Tried YY for the first time last night and it was amazing. Tried the stir fried spicy crab, pad thai with shrimp, chicken satay and delicious thai rice. Everything was spot on. Service was great and also bought home some yummy tom yum soup which i am going to try today. I hope they can deliver too. Definitely going back there again.
I have been going to YY for many years, this place and to the second one in Wudadao both. In addition to good traditional Thai food they have good craft beer also, the Tom Yum Soup is the best in Tianjin.
I like it because taste is similar with I tried in Thailand
So bad service. I had been there with my friends several times. But after yesterday, I don't want to go again even if food is good. We want to seat in non-smoking area beacuse someone is smoking. It's refused. When we want to add more dish. It's refused also. But new order is ok still at that time.(only 13:00).It's not closing time. During whole lunch, we didn't see any simle on waitress. Their mind is if you don't like, you can leave.
I was referred to YY's by a friend, another restaurant owner at that. It really hit the spot for Thai food, my friend and I really enjoyed the different types of dishes we chose, especially the shrimp cakes and soup. Service was great and the staff was friendly.
After all our food and two bottles of wine we left completely satisfied.
I really do not have any cons, maybe the tables were a little small and close together, but heck, makes more room to get more customers in.
We are new to Tianjin and this is exactly what we were after - Great Thai food, prompt service in a relaxed down to earth atmosphere. Good value also and a convenient central location just next to the Intl building.
Busy and a little too much smoke wafting about.
I cannot think of any place better to eat.
Just wish I had a YY Beer House in my home town:(((
I have brought many of Chinese my friends that have never heard of them here and they have become regulars.
The prices are great and the food is even better!!!
Never had a bad visit to YY since 2008! I go at least once a week! It is located near where I stay and always feel welcome there.
Outstanding Thai food at a very reasonable price!!!!!!
Kind of hard to find for the newcomer to Tianjin,on the back side of the International Building
Must make the reservation if you plan on getting a table at times, can become very busy at times.
- High quality, clean and surprisingly authentic Thai food.
- Really excellent seafood, the fish and crab dishes are amazing.
- Probably the best soup I have ever had, don't miss the Tomyamgoong
- Great beer and wine selection, with large Tiger beer only 15RMB.
- Pricey, and some of the cheaper wines are best left unordered (as always).
- A couple of their starter dishes (such as the stuffed chicken wings) are disappointing.
- Cozy atmosphere. I'd probably have complaints about the cramped nature of YYs in another city, but in Tianjin most places have no atmosphere at all, so it makes a nice change.
- Great food. I haven't had better Thai food than this outside Thailand.
- Easygoing and friendly staff.
- Good prices on beer, and reasonable overall.
- Nice city centre location.
I can't really think of anything major. I don't remember ever leaving feeling unhappy.
YY Beer house is not limited to the beers, but also to their great Thai food (Curry, papaya salad are very good,...). What is already a good deal quality price on normal day becomes awesome for their wine testing day (1 Wednesday/month , maybe the 3rd one of the moth, to be checked), where you get the buffet plus a lot of good wines all you can eat all you can dring for 100 RMB. It really worth it.
As the other people, the restaurant is kindda small. It's ok on usual day (better reserve though), but it become really packed for their buffet sessions.

How Do I Find An Ayi (Maid/Household Help) If you live on your own, there are tons of advantages to hiring someone to help you clean and cook. What I've done is hired someone to work two hours a day around lunch hour to help me clean (sweep & squeegee-or-whatever-you-call-that-thing the floor, pick up random clutter, handle laundry, heat a thermos of water, dishes) and to make the day's food for us. ...
How Do I Connect To The Internet? Depending on which part of Tianjin or the complex/building you live in, Tianjin offers you varieties of internet service providers. Internet Connection installation is usually handled by your landlord. Suggest you talk to your landlord and see what options you have there for your building/area. Chinese people don’t care too much for internet speed so whenever you move in a house/apartment, makes sure to tell your landlord to apply for the fastest connection package available. ...
How does the electricity generally work? Most electricity in Tianjin is purchased in advance by the unit, to be consumed only after purchase. However, some people must pay a bill collector who personally comes to their door every month to collect. When you first move into your apartment, your landlord should give you a cardboard card with the apartment’s electricity purchase record and a two-inch long plastic charger piece or the electric purchasing card. After removing the plastic cover, the head of this...
Tianjin Housing Guide When it comes to renting an apartment, best you have some local friends with you as you will be ripped off regardless of what once the landlord/agent knows you are a laowai/foreigner. Here in Tianjin, real agents get their commission directly from the landlord if you are renting the apartment for a year which is usually one-month worth of value of the rent itself. For this, don’t ever give in the agents or the landlords. Commission is...
Hospitals in general: There are little clinics every few blocks in Tianjin, and if you've got something minor, go there. I'd recommend getting a medical translation dictionary. The doctors are usually competent IF they know what you're talking about, and they'll listen, again, if you know what you're saying to them, but they can be super pushy if they don't. Also, they've got a pretty wide array of basic Western antibiotics and such, but you've got to know the translation....
Insight on China Post In experience, using the postal service is one of the more frustrating experiences one can have in China. A lot of times it seems like their jobs are more to hinder people from using the postal service rather than to provide a service; although some times are much better than others. If you have a complicated task, and your Chinese is not up for it, it might be necessary to find someone to help you. ...
