Zii Mexican food's new location is in the heart of Tianjin in Truemans, Nankai Wandezhuang Street Long De Li, tucked away down a small side street. A comfortable restuarant and bar vibe with some space upstairs for some privacy or for a game with friends.
I have to admit, as soon as I heard about Zii Mexican, I went searching for this authentic Mexican restuarant I kept hearing so much buzz about as quickly as possible. Living in Beijing and Tianjin over the past few years, I have met many foreigners who all express the same sentiment when asked what they miss most about being away from their home - Good Mexican food.
It's important I make this clear, Zii Mexican is not Tex-Mex style (American style Mexican food). However, I am excited to announce that Tianjin now has an authentic, legitimate Mexican food restuarant with amazing dishes.
The menu was very reasonably priced, with imported spices for seasoning their dishes and home made sauces. I ordered a lot of dishes (for two), a Corona and listened to Bob Marley in the background and felt relief to have finally found my Mexican food spot.
Here's what I ordered and what Zii had to say about them:
Chilaquiles - Are a 100% traditional Mexican Dish, known by almost all of Mexico. Made from corn tortillas dipped in tomato sauce, covered with chicken, cream, cheese and onion.
Tostada - A type of food you usually use as a Mexican Taste, this dish has a diversity of flavors. You can taste many kinds of stews, and is made with corn tortilla, the basis being beef, chicken or fish, with a top layer of lettuce, sour cream and cheese.
The Longaniza (sausage) is a derivative of a family of sausages, this product is made and developed in many parts of Mexico with different types of meat. Most commonly with pork sausage. This dish is also served in different ways, usually alone or cooked. Zii's sausage is made with Mexican Spices and products in order to give you the best taste of the pork.
The Mole enchiladas are made of chicken wrapped corn tortillas, topped with sauce and covered with cheese, sour cream and onion.
The Mole is also a popular dish in Mexico additionally used in most of the traditional festivals of the people. This dish has a Story and is a True Reflection of our country, because it is made with such diverse Mexican chiles.
I loved it all. It's everything I was hoping for in Mexican food. Finally there's a Mexican food spot to enjoy in Tianjin!
