I'm not sure what's happened over the past year, but it seems Dublin Irish Pub in HePing Qu is seeing a new wave of customers. I remember going here over 18 months ago. It was nice, but very quiet. Recently, it's always busy on Friday and Saturday nights.
This was the first time I had food there... and wow! It was absolutely delicious. Everyone was complimenting the taste and quality. There's also a pool table with excellent quality cues (a rare thing in TJ pubs), and there's a dart board and dice games. They also show the big sports games on the projector and now the bar staff let you DJ the music!
Beer is on the cheaper end with a surprisingly good range. Mixers and cocktails are competitively priced. Although, it's easy to run up a big bill here, as the staff are very attentive when it comes to filling up your drinks.
I think the old reviewers may change their mind if they went here again, especially on Friday/Saturday.
Good range of beers on tap, e.g. Guiness, Kilkenny, Carlsberg etc, and a nice range of spirits and cocktails. Nice wooden look, TVs playing sports and bands playing at the weekend, and English-speaking staff. Plenty of seating available and a pool table. Food is upper-level pub grub, but there's a broad range. Jin and Business Tianjin magazines are available by the doorway.
It's a big place so if it's quiet there's no atmosphere at all. Can be a little pricy, but typically so for a Western bar.
nothing to really recommend it for, it's a bar
Girlfriend discovered a ribbon of steel in her Cottage pie, presumably from pot scrubbing brush, which put an end to the meal, reported it to the staff. Staff seemed to think it was perfectly acceptable to charge for the barely touched meal, asked for the boss, "Jessica" if I remember correctly who reluctantly removed that item from the bill but only after being pressed.
Live band at the weekends is really quite good! Has a good atmosphere when it is busy, but is so big that it can be very dull mid week.
We had good soups (potato, not tomato as told!!) but the Irish stew was hopeless!! 8 pieces of (ok) meat, 4 bad tasting small lumps of potato and 5 slices of carrot all swimming in about 1 litre of heavily seassoned "gravy"!!!! The toilets are disgusting and stink - I know this is common here, but it would help if they made some attempt to clean them!
