2018 Tianjin Open Hits Prize Money Milestone
Wednesday, 10th January 2018, Tianjin, China – Organisers of the Tianjin Open announced today that prize money will increase to USD 750,000, continuing the tournament’s rapid growth and success as the largest annual sporting event in Tianjin.
Tianjin Open, hosted in the Jinghai District at the Tianjin Tuanbo International Tennis Center between October 8 -14, is a WTA International Series event and the increase in prize money will cement its place as one of the highest prize money International events and a prestigious stop in the Porsche Race to Singapore, which culminates with the season-ending WTA Finals.
Tianjin has a strong and proud tennis history having fostered outstanding talent including Peng Shuai and Zhang Shuai and culminated with the inaugural Tianjin Open in 2014.
The tournament has repeatedly attracted international marquee players to the event including Petra Kvitova, Jelena Jankovic, Elina Svitolina, Karolina Pliskova, Martina Hingis and Agnieszka Radwanska (2015 Champion) and Maria Sharapova (2017 Champion).
“APG and our event partners Tuanbo Haomai are committed to the growth and development of women’s professional tennis in Tianjin. The decision to increase prize money for the second time within the first five years of the event’s history is testament to that and will allow us to attract a stronger player field, increased media interest, sponsorship and reward our fans as we celebrate our fifth anniversary,” said Tournament Director Stephen Duckitt.
